I have a memory from when I was much shorter of tugging my mom's skirt, looking up at her, and saying as earnestly as only a very small human can, "I'm going to be an artist when I grow up!" Her gift of seed beads and a loom started me on this road. At 21, a friend looked at a necklace I was making and asked, "How much for that?" A light came on and that’s when I knew jewelry was the path for me. My education in metals began in high school as the only girl in metal shop class. I had no idea that I would end up wielding a much smaller set of tools less than a decade later. As a silversmith, I began as a repair jeweler and worked my way around to the side of designing. The repair aspect taught me a lot about good and bad construction, what fails and what endures, and which stones are suitable for what manner of wear. My designs reflect that wisdom and I strive to construct pieces that will please your senses and do so for a very long time. My gem obsession started with, “Ooooh, that’s pretty!” and eventually grew to, “Hmm. That rhodolite sparkles differently than that rubellite and they’re the same color. What gives?” That last question took me to California where I spent six glorious months at the Gemological Institute of America learning the answer. I earned my Graduate Gemologist degree for Christmas that year. Best present EVER.
I have no idea where we are going next, you and I, but for now the next journey begins in my small studio.
Wishing you the Shiniest of Things!
